OR Tambo International Airport

OR Tambo International Airport

OR Tambo International Airport, formerly known as Johannesburg International Airport, is Africa’s busiest airport. Named after the struggle hero, Oliver Reginald Tambo, it offers a huge array of restaurants and shops as well as a duty-free retail mall, business centre and a conference centre which can seat up to one hundred and twenty delegates.

A new transit terminal between the domestic and international terminals is currently under construction, which will house the Gautrain station linking the airport to Sandton, a popular tourist and business destination.

A worthwhile attraction at the OR Tambo International Airport is the South African Airways museum, which is filled with South African Airways memorabilia and other fascinating aviation exhibits.

At the 2005 World Travel Awards, OR Tambo International Airport was named the leading airport in Africa. It also won the Skytrax Best Airport in Africa award from 2002 to 2004.
