Polokwane (previously known as Pietersburg) is the capital of the Limpopo province and has a rich cultural past as evident by its many museums and cultural attractions. Good news for sports fans is that the Peter Mokaba Stadium will be used for matches for the 2010 World Cup.

You can catch a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle of the Sotho people at the Bakone Malapa Northern Sotho open-air museum, just 9km south of the town centre. It is a living museum, with remarkable exhibitions showcasing the history and culture of the Sotho people.

Limpopo is a popular eco-tourism destination with lots of game viewing opportunities. The most popular being the Polokwane Game Reserve, which spans 3,200 hectares and is home to more than twenty species of game and birdlife. The reserve offers beautiful scenic walks and is especially popular with birdwatchers.

Other attractions at Polokwane include the impressive Hugh Exton photograph museum and the nearby concentration camp cemetery.
