Johannesburg World Cup 2010 Stadiums

Johannesburg has two World Cup venues – Ellis Park and Soccer City. Ellis Park is situated in Doornfontein in Johannesburg, not far from the CBD. It has successfully hosted a number of large international sporting events including the Confederations Cup and the 1995 rugby World Cup final. The multi-purpose stadium has a capacity of over 60 000.

Soccer City, located close to Soweto, is the largest stadium in Africa, accommodating over 94 000 fans. It was the site of Nelson Mandela’s first speech in Johannesburg following his release from prison and has been extensively renovated for the World Cup 2010. The final will be held at this venue on 11 July.
