Worcester

Worcester is situated one hour's drive from Cape Town. This quaint town is in the centre of the Breede Valley, amongst the Brandwacht, Overhex and Langeberg Mountains. Many exciting places are only a short drive away due to the town's convenient location.

The main hub of activity in Worcester is wine farming and wine tasting. The district is the largest wine producing area in the country, with 27 wine cellars and 2 brandy cellars on the Worcester Wine Route. Some memorable names on the route are Du Toitskloof, Groot Eiland, Dasbosch and Bergsig Estate wine cellars. The Brandy Route, near Worcester is host to KWV, the world's largest brandy cellar.

The Karoo National Botanical Gardens feature the natural vegetation of the semi-arid areas surrounding Worcester, elegantly landscaped.

Kleinplasie is Worcester's agricultural show ground. It consists of an open-air living museum, restaurant, wine cellar and a reptile menagerie.

A walking route through the early architectural delights of Worcester is also offered.

Worcester is very proud of its Institute for the Blind. Established in 1881, it's the oldest organization of its kind in South Africa. There is also the Institute for the Deaf. Both institutes offer support and a better way of life to the visually and aurally impaired, and happily allow visitors to see how the blind and deaf are trained and helped.
